Wine, more wine, girlfriends, a reason for the perfect OOTD, great food and laughs all day! I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend my weekend than celebrating a friends birthday in Mexico’s beautiful wine country.
Valley de Guadalupe is just a one and a half hour drive south of the Tijuana border. Our group of ten ladies decided it was easiest and less expensive to hire a driver from Tijuana to each winery and back. This way no one was drinking and driving and we could all ride together and sing Backstreet boys at the top of our lungs (true story). We walked across the border and met our driver at a nearby parking lot where we began and ended the day.
Casa Frida
First Stop was Casa Frida. This place was a bloggers heaven. There were so many places to take pictures both inside and out. The building itself had a restaurant and tasting room up top; the main level had very cool hipster decor, high ceilings, funky light fixtures and tons of oversized Frida paintings. It was partially an art gallery and even had rooms available for rent on Airbnb. If you aren’t a wino this place also offers tequila tastings which most of our group opted for. Outside they had more art, a smaller bar and lots of seating. The weather mid-March was perfect to spend the day outside sipping on wine, looking at art and catching up with your girlfriends.
Decantos Vinícola
The next stop, Decantos Vinícola was probably my favorite place we visited on our mini-tour of Valle de Guadalupe. I loved the outside quart yard area, the views were stunning. There were large picnic tables with oversized umbrellas overlooking the vineyards. The vibe here was relaxed, fun and very Housewives of Orange County-ish and I mean that in a good way. It’s like everyone got the memo to dress on trend, lot’s of boho hats here and the perfect wine tasting outfits! Besides the stunning views, this place had the BEST sangria. And when I say the best I mean it! Our entire group ordered one and you can’t be the price just $5 a glass. Our group also ordered a few cheese boards which were fitting with the atmosphere.
La
Finally, lunch! After wine (and tequila) tasting we were ready to eat. First things first, the place was gorgeous! From the large wine barrels out front to the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the vineyards out back. This place had all the views. Now onto the food. Baja Med which is in the restaurant’s name (as explained to me) means everything is locally grown and as fresh as you can get. The quality was superb, however, the portions were small. But this makes great for ordering many things to taste and share. The prices were reasonable, about $25 or less for a few small plates. There were more expensive options like steak or extravagant seafood dishes. The only downside to the restaurant was
Agua de Vid
Walking into this place really set the tone. The building had a trendy architectural vibe out front and you had to cross a walking bridge over a pond to get in. From the decor to the music this bar and restaurant was hipster happening. We landed here late afternoon which was perfect timing to watch the sunset and listen to the DJ spin on the rooftop deck. Not only did this place have three levels to enjoy wine, beer or a cocktail but the outside was also stunning and had additional seating with firepits. No matter what level you were on you had a perfect view of the vineyards.
After a long day of picture taking, eating, drinking and lot’s of laughing we made the long drive back to San Diego. I love girl trips. We don’t get to do them often because life, but when we do they are always so much fun! If you don’t have a girls trip planned in the near future I say get a group text with your besties going right now, you’ll thank me later.
Happy Traveling!
XOXO,
Marissa
